Little bit of catch-up

Ketchup?
Close... but no.

I know I haven't posted since February, so let me try to get information up to date. (No more mood blanket updates; that got frogged)

First things first: I officially started my crochet side business!  It's called Blue Owl Crochet, and you can find me on FacebookTwitter, and of course, my online shop on Goodsmiths.  So go like, follow, and leave some love!

Next up, I am now a year older. I have officially hit the quarter-century mark.  Best part about that, though, is I can now rent cars!  Yeah... that's the most exciting thing about my birthday.

I also just got back from my first major solo road trip.  I drove down to visit some relatives in southern Illinois; a good 5.5-6 hour drive from home.  I survived and had a great few days in the relaxing countryside.  One day, we even drove into Indiana to see a performance of Godspell, which is one of my mom's favorite musicals.  It was ridiculously good despite it being performed as a smaller production.

Aaand, right now, my stomach is telling me to feed it. So more updates and such later, 'kay?

Some things I've made. Now with potato-y goodness!

I've been a busy, little bee lately.  As I said earlier, I've got a waiting list of friends who wanted hats and such from me.  My camera's still down and out, but I wanted to make sure I had pictures of finished products before I handed them off.  So, here are some potato pictures from my cell phone.

This is a Hello Kitty hat I made for my friend Kattie.

Another view of the Hello Kitty hat

Kattie loved her hat so much, she paid me to make her a dead Hello Kitty hat!

Per her stylistic requests, this is how the hat turned out.

Not crochet, but still craft-related...

My step-dad recently gave me a bunch of ceramics and some paint.  When I get tired of crocheting, I'll pull out some paint and decorate something.

Of all the things that I've painted, this one has to be my favorite.  It's a cute, little cookie jar in the shape of an owl.  Most of the animal pieces I had, I've painted pretty lifelike, but this one I wanted to have fun with.

After I had it painted and baking in the oven, I was browsing ceramic owl pictures on Google and I noticed other people had my style of owl cookie jar.  Then, I noticed something about theirs that was different from mine...

I DON'T HAVE THAT FUCKING TINY OWL ON TOP!!!

There's a little hole on top for the little guy to connect to, but alas...  he didn't come with when my step-dad bought all the ceramics.  I hope the shop didn't pull them apart and sell them separately; that's just too sad of a thought.  It's like a mother being separated from her baby.  I'm still on the lookout for the baby piece.  Preferably, unpainted so it's easier for me to match them together.

I still love my little cookie jar, though, and if I never find the baby, a little handle should work fine.

Thinking of selling my wares

When one of my friends at work found out she was pregnant, one thing she said was that she was sad her mother wasn't around to make her handmade clothes.

Enter Jess.  I offered to make her some things for the baby (which really was no big deal, I always try to make one or two little things for pregnant friends).  I've been having fun with it; finding new patterns to try on Ravelry, coming up with color schemes and such.

Meanwhile, I've also found some really cool hat patterns I've liked, modified, and made for people.  I made the TARDIS hat for my baby brother, a hat that looks like a creeper from Minecraft for another brother, and a Hello Kitty hat for another work friend.

Well, now I've found I have a waiting list of people who want a hat or something made for them.  It honestly surprised me that in this age of easily-obtainable, mass-produced clothing, people still really want handmade stuff.  Maybe it's that it'll last longer than some of the factory-made stuff (I have a knit penguin hat that is sorely close to losing the tassels and beak).  Maybe it's just the simple fact that it was specially made for them by a friend.

Who knows?  Either way, it has encouraged me to keep crocheting and possibly set up a little online shop somewhere to sell some things I make.  I'm still looking into it, though.  Once I get through my current waiting list, I'll reevaluate what/if I want to do.

What would my psychiatrist say about this?

Well, 12 days into my mood blanket and...  I'm all over the place!  I've had mostly good days, but my moods have always been so different in realm of "good" that I've incorporated so many different colors into the blanket.  The longest color streak I have is three rows of blue.  That's a day and a half of a similar mood.

This is really an interesting look into my mind and personality.  Can't wait to see how it keeps progressing!

Here's a picture of the blanket as of today:
